AKRON, Ohio — Akron police are investigating a shooting involving two officers that left one male dead Sunday morning.
After receiving numerous calls, officers were dispatched to a vehicle against the center median on 76E near E. Market Street, according to a news release from Akron police. The vehicle was unoccupied. Callers provided a description of the person who abandoned the car.
A short time later, officers found the person walking near Brittain Road and Evans Avenue, the release states. During the encounter with the subject at about 8:54 a.m., shots were fired, and the subject was pronounced dead at the scene.
The officers were involved were a 12-year veteran and an 18-year veteran. Per procedure, both were placed on paid administrative leave.
The incident is under investigation.
The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy on the deceased, whose name is being withheld pending identification and notification of the family.
