AKRON, Ohio — Akron police are investigating after they say a man shot and killed his estranged wife before killing himself Friday afternoon.
Around 3:30 p.m., officers were called to a home in the 700 block of Morgan Avenue for reports of a shooting.
Once on scene, officers found a 49-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman outside with apparent gunshot wounds, police said.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
The woman was transported to Summa Health Akron City Hospitals in critical condition, but she later died from her injuries, police said.
Detectives at the scene determined the man shot the woman, who was his estranged wife, multiple times during a domestic dispute before turning the gun on himself.
An autopsy is being conducted by the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office, police said.
The names of the man and the woman are being withheld at this time pending positive identification and family notifications, according to police.
