AKRON, Ohio — The Akron RubberDucks have postponed their Fourth of July “Fourth on the Field” event after discussions with Summit County health officials, the team said.

Fourth on the Field was a planned event for guests to attend the park for a showing of “Frozen II” on the video board and to later enjoy a fireworks show following the movie, but due to health officials’ concerns over the risk of COVID-19 spread, the RubberDucks decided to postpone the event.

The team said it thought it had put all of the necessary safety precautions in place in order to hold the event, but Summit County health officials requested the event be canceled.

"We are disappointed that this event cannot go forward as planned,” said RubberDucks General Manager Jim Pfander, “The Akron RubberDucks worked closely with state and local officials to get prior approval for this year’s Fourth on the Field event, but out an abundance of caution and working with Summit County health officials as it pertains to fireworks gatherings, we have decided to postpone this event. The safety of our fans, guests and staff at Canal Park has always been our top priority, and we will continue to follow all health and safety protocols in order to proceed with events at Canal Park in the safest manner possible.”

The RubberDucks plan to reschedule the event for a date later in the summer.
