Akron teen arrested after officers find marijuana, over $46,000 in cash inside book bag

AKRON, Ohio — A 17-year-old boy was arrested after police found bags of marijuana and cash amounting to over $46,000 during a traffic stop in Akron Tuesday.

At around 6:30 p.m., officers pulled over a vehicle for reckless operation in the area of Thornton and Raymond streets after it was seen traveling at a high rate of speed and running several stop signs.

When officers approached the car, the teen, who was sitting in the back passenger seat, attempted to put on a book bag that was on his lap.

Inside the book bag, police found five sealed plastic bags containing 69 grams of marijuana and over $46,000 in cash.

The teen was charged with trafficking drugs and possession of marijuana before he was taken to the Summit County Juvenile Center.

The 29-year-old driver was cited for reckless operation and driving under suspension.
