AKRON, Ohio — A 49-year-old woman will spend the next several years behind bars for supplying drugs that led to the deaths of two people.

The woman, Gina Tasich, of Akron, pleaded guilty to two counts of involuntary manslaughter on Thursday, according to the Akron Police Department.

In June 2019, Melissa Kepnes, 32, overdosed and died from using methamphetamine and carfentanil, police said. Then in January 2020, another person, Gary Slack, 56, died from a methamphetamine and fentanyl overdose.

An investigation later showed that Tasich supplied the drugs used by Kepnes and Slack. She was arrested on March 3, 2020.

Following Tasich's guilty plea, she was sentenced to 5 to 7-and-a-half-years in prison.
