AKRON, Ohio — An Akron woman who was kidnapped by her son from her home Tuesday night has been found safe after police located the vehicle involved in her kidnapping in Medina County Wednesday morning.
The Ohio Attorney General’s Office issued an Endangered Missing Adult Alert for a 70-year-old woman who was kidnapped by her son from her Akron home in a red Kia Spectrum.
The alleged kidnapping incident happened Tuesday at around 11:30 p.m. at Courtesy Inn, located on West Market Street in Akron.
Officers spoke to the woman's husband who said they were attempting to drop off their 34-year-old son at the motel when he started acting erratically and possibly under the influence, police said.
Their son refused to get out of the car once they arrived at the hotel. The 34-year-old man jumped into the driver's seat and took off with his mother inside.
A few hours later, officers spotted the vehicle involved in the kidnapping in the area of US 224 and Main Street. Officers attempted to stop the car, but the woman's son allegedly took off, leading officers on a lengthy pursuit that ended in York Township in Medina County.
Multiple departments responded and deployed stop sticks to stop the pursuit.
The 34-year-old son was taken into custody at around 2:55 a.m. Police said he faces multiple charges, including abduction.
The 70-year-old woman, who was insulin-dependent, was found safe and unharmed in the vehicle.
News 5 will name the subject involved in the kidnapping and pursuit once official charges have been released.
