WEST CHESTER, Ohio — The mother and daughter at the center of an Amber Alert out of West Chester have been found safe.

Police originally reported a 17-year-old girl and her 1-year-old daughter had not been seen since 4:30 a.m. Monday morning. They were located Monday afternoon in Akron, Ohio with the father of the child, said West Chester Public Information Officer Barb Wilson.

Police believed they might have been with the father of the child.

Officials originally said they believed the mother and daughter could have been in danger because the child's father had "an alleged history of severe domestic violence." He was charged with interference with custody after the two were located.

Wilson said on Tuesday West Chester police traveled to Akron to interview everyone involved. Due to "discrepancies found in (the mother's) status as a juvenile," as well as the child's father cooperating and his "unknowingly" interfering with custody, Wilson said all charges against him will be nullified.

"The West Chester Police Department is grateful to the community for their active response to the Amber Alert yesterday," Wilson said in a release. "The assistance of the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, and the U.S. Marshals Service were critical to the quick resolution of this case."
