BARBERTON, Ohio — The Barberton couple who recently had quintuplets shared a heartbreaking update on their Facebook page. Four days after her birth, one of the quintuplets, Meredith Theresa, died, according to parents Hannah and Jacob Merton.
Meredith was the smallest of the five babies, born at 1-pound, 4.3 ounces. The day after the quintuplets were born, the Mertons shared that Meredith had given them a few scares in the hospital.
The Mertons held a service for Meredith on Saturday and posted a heartfelt tribute to her on Facebook after the service.
Hannah and Jacob have remained strong through their journey and have recently been able to hold their children for the first time since their birth on March 5.
Philomena Rose, Evangeline Margaret, Gideon Michael and Elliot Sebastian have been doing well, according to the Mertons.
The two girls and two boys are being cared for by a team of doctors who have been preparing for their birth for weeks. The Mertons also have their community behind them. Just after Hannah gave birth, the Barberton community came together for a baby shower that was held for the Mertons.
The open baby shower was hosted at the Prince of Peace Church where any and all were welcome to bring gifts from Hannah and Jacob’s babylist.com registry and diapers for the babies.
