RICHFIELD, Ohio — A trail camera at Furnace Run Metro Park in Summit County captured the elusive Ohio bobcat.
According to Summit Metro Parks Chief of Conservation Mike Johnson, their presence in the park is a good sign for the environment.
Bobcats are harmless and are not known for attacking or harming people. They generally avoid being seen.
Johnson said the cats are known for their “tremendous, horrifying screech.”
According to the Division of Wildlife, nearly 500 verified sightings of bobcats were found in 2017. Verified includes road-killed, incidentally trapped or photographed bobcats.
The state said due to a large amount of unoccupied, forest habitat in eastern Ohio, bobcat sightings are expected to increase in future years as the population increases in abundance and distribution.
