Canton homeowner shoots and kills burglar during home invasion robbery, police say

CANTON, Ohio — A Canton homeowner shot and killed an alleged burglar during a home invasion robbery on 2nd Street Northwest Monday morning, according to Canton police.

Officers responded to the home shortly after 2 a.m. to investigate a report of a home invasion robbery. During this time, officers were notified of a person who was brought in to Aultman Hospital with gunshot wounds.

A preliminary investigation revealed the gunshot victim was one of the two alleged burglars in the home invasion robbery on 2nd Street Northwest.

The alleged burglar was shot by the homeowner during the robbery and was pronounced dead at 2:10 a.m., police said.

Police said the second person involved in the home invasion robbery fled the home and is still at large.

The home invasion and shooting remain under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 330-489-3144.
