CANTON, Ohio — Canton native and Portland Trail Blazers guard CJ McCollum is donating $170,000 for COVID-19 relief, a large portion of which will go to helping families in his hometown.

Of the $170,000 donation, McCollum will be sending $100,000 to the Akron-Canton Regional Food Bank.

The donation will provide 400,000 meals to families in the Akron-Canton area.

The other $70,000 will be donated to The Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland Metro.

McCollum was born in Canton and played basketball at GlenOak High School. McCollum graduated as the leading scorer in Golden Eagles history with 1,405 career points and was named the Gatorade Ohio Player of the Year during his senior season.

Although he’s across the country playing for the Trail Blazers, McCollum hasn’t forgotten his roots, giving back to his community when they need it most.
