COVENTRY TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A Coventry Township man has been charged with felonious assault and domestic violence after a woman reported an assault at a local hospital, according to a release from the Akron Police Department.

Mark Northup, 41, of Coventry Township, was charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony, and domestic violence, a first-degree misdemeanor.

On July 6 at the Green campus of Akron General Hospital, a woman reported her boyfriend had struck her in the head with a handgun.

Police said the woman and her boyfriend, identified as Northup, were involved in a physical fight inside his home in Coventry Township.

The woman was struck multiple times in the head by his handgun, police said in the report.

On Tuesday, the sheriff’s office arrested Northup during a traffic stop. A search warrant was executed at his residence and investigators collected evidence of the assault.

Northup was taken into custody and taken to the Summit County Jail.
