COVENTRY TOWNSHIP, Ohio — The Coventry Township man accused of raping and killing a 68-year-old antique dealer has agreed to plead guilty in exchange for not facing the death penalty, according to an article by News 5 media partner Akron Beacon Journal.
On Tuesday, Michael Olson, 35, pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated murder, rape, gross abuse of a corpse, grand theft of a motor vehicle and trespass in a habitation. After consultation, however, Olson agreed to change his plea to guilty next Tuesday in court, the article said.
Police received a call in June about a missing 68-year-old woman, Mary Kay Wohlfarth, of Akron. Wohlfarth's body was found hours later inside of a storage unit in the 500 block of Tallmadge Avenue.
According to the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office, Wohlfarth died from blunt force trauma to the head and neck.
Police said Olson, who worked as a handyman and was acquainted with the victim, was later seen driving her vehicle and arrested.
With Olson’s plea change, he will be sentenced to life without the possibility of parole, according to the article.
