AKRON, Ohio — An family experienced a close call Sunday night when a giant tree came crashing down on their Northwest Akron home, according to News 5 media partners at the Akron Beacon Journal.

Pam Gensel told the Akron Beacon Journal that she was working in the kitchen when she heard a loud boom. When she looked down the hallway, she saw dust and debris near the two bedroom doors.

Strong weekend winds uprooted the front yard tree before it smashed through the roof in the corner of the family's one-story, brick home on Brookshire Road.

While the Gensel family was home at the time, no one was on that side of the house when the tree fell down.

The family includes Pam's husband Tom and their two sons, 23-year-old Jeremy and 17-year-old Riley, and their three cats and a dog.

“Very lucky. Very blessed,” Pam Gensel said Monday morning to Ohio.com as she surveyed the damage. “If it would have been late at night or when we were sleeping, I don’t know that Riley would have made it out.”
