CANTON, Ohio — Sylvia Milini started every morning with a text to her granddaughter, but Saturday morning, she didn’t get a response.
Milini called the phone, but instead of hearing her granddaughter’s voice, she heard the voice of a detective.
14-year-old Sylvia McGhee was shot and killed early Saturday morning near 11th Street SW in Canton.

Sylvia was pronounced dead on the scene at 5:01 a.m., according to the Stark County Coroner.
"I love her so much I feel like somebody just ripped my heart right out of my chest," Milini said.
Sylvia’s aunt, Ashley Milini, wants answers to why her niece was killed.
"Why would somebody do this to her? What did she do that was so bad? I couldn't understand. I didn't believe it at first," Ashley Milini said.
On Monday, Canton City Schools is providing counseling for students at the Compton Learning Center.
STEAMM Academy at Hartford, the school Sylvia was previously enrolled in, is also providing counseling for students on Monday.
Canton police are still investigating the incident and urge anyone with information to call them at 330-489-3117.
Meanwhile, loved ones are still praying for answers.
