AKRON, Ohio — A Good Samaritan helped a senior citizen in need.
Akron police said a man approached an 80-year-old woman at the Family Dollar on Kenmore Boulevard Monday afternoon, tried to distract her, and then grabbed her purse a ran.
Luckily, Benjamin Gibner heard the woman and her husband yell for help and ran after the purse snatcher.
Gibner eventually cornered the man in someone's backyard and convinced him to hand over the purse.
The woman said it meant a lot to her that a complete stranger wanted to help.
"Wow somebody out there cares enough to help me and they don't even know me," she said.
"I didn't really think about it, I wouldn't want someone to do something like that to any of my loved ones and whether I knew the person or not, if I see wrongdoing going on it's just what I feel like id naturally do and that's what I did," Gibner said.
The woman decided not to pursue charges against the man who stole her purse and she said she has no idea what that man was going through, especially with all the hardships so many are facing during the pandemic.
