AKRON, Ohio — Sunday’s rainy weather didn’t stop a group of young professionals in Akron from giving back to their community, holding a turkey giveaway for those in need this Thanksgiving.
Brothers of the Same Struggle hosted their second annual turkey giveaway, handing out around 150 turkeys and goody bags with canned goods and other Thanksgiving staples like sweet potatoes.
The giveaway took place in the parking lot of Buchtel High School and the school’s student athletes stepped up to help as well.
“Just trying to give people some joy,” said Lavar Jacobs Sr., one of the organizers of the event. “It’s just really bringing joy and turkeys are synonymous with Thanksgiving.”
Brothers of the Same Struggle hopes that events like the one held on Sunday will inspire others to give back to their communities.
