Man arrested after shooting that killed man, injured another at Corner Pocket Bar in Akron

AKRON, Ohio — A 25-year-old man was shot to death and another man was injured in a shooting outside The Corner Pocket Bar in Akron Friday.

Nelson Becton, 40, of Akron, was arrested and charged with murder and felonious assault for his alleged role in the incident, according to police.

The shooting happened at around 1:33 a.m. at The Corner Pocket Bar, 805 Upson Street.

When officers responded, they found a 43-year-old man in critical condition who was transported to Summa Akron City Hospital and another victim, identified as a 25-year-old man, dead at the scene, police said.

Investigators determined there was a fight that happened before the shooting.

A 25-year-old woman was also critically injured when she was hit by a vehicle fleeing the parking lot after the shooting.

The shooting remains under investigation.
