An Akron man has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of 57-year-old Dereke Alexander outside a convenience store last November.

Earlier this week, authorities issued a warrant for the arrest of 35-year-old Jerry Dwayne Alford Sr.

The shooting happened on Nov. 16, 2017. Alexander was found by officers around 5:30 p.m. on the 400 block of West Market Street. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.

Alford turned himself into police on Friday. He was charged with aggravated murder and booked into Summit County Jail.
