A man died Friday afternoon in Akron after he crashed his 2013 Volkswagen Passat into the back of a dump truck loaded with asphalt, according to Akron police.
The crash happened around 1 p.m. in the 1100 block of Home Avenue, on the city's northeast side, officials stated.
The dump truck driver was slowing down to a stop when the Volkswagen rear-ended the truck, police said. The driver was wearing a seatbelt and the airbag deployed, according to officials. The Volkswagen's driver was taken to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the dump truck was not injured in the crash.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
The identity of the Volkswagen's driver has not been released.
