An Akron man was fatally shot when he chased two armed men from his girlfriend's apartment after they pushed her around and robbed them, police say.

The shooting happened at the Springhill Apartments on the 1200 block of Everton Drive around 5 p.m.

The victim's girlfriend told police that two armed men entered her apartment, shoved her around and took some cash that was inside the residence. The 27-year-old victim chased the two men out of the building and through the apartment complex and was shot several times, police said.

The victim was found unresponsive by a security guard and pronounced dead by Akron Fire EMS around 5:38 p.m. His name has not been released.

A short time later, Christian Pittman, 22, of Akron, arrived at Mercy Medical Center in Canton with a gunshot wound. Pittman was treated and released and taken to Akron, questioned by police and charged with murder in connection with the death of the 27-year-old.

Pittman was transported to the Summit County Jail and is being held in lieu of a $1 million bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
