AKRON, Ohio — A 22-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint in his driveway in Akron Thursday night, and the robbery victim's mother was shot in the leg as she came out of the house during the incident, according to police.
Officers received a call of a shooting on Florida Avenue at about 7:45 p.m. Thursday, the Akron police report states.
The 22-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint in his driveway as he exited his car, police said. He was ordered to the ground, then kicked and punched.
The victim’s 44-year-old mother came out of the house during the incident, and the robbers fled on foot without taking anything, the report states. As they were running away, one robber fired two shots, striking the mother once in her lower leg. She was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The robbers fled the scene in what was described as a light-colored older Pontiac Montana minivan with small headlines, or an older-model Chevy Lumina minivan.
One robber was described by police as a black male in his 20s, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, weighing 150 to 160 pounds. He was wearing a light gray hooded sweatshirt, dark pants, and had a mask over his face. Police said he had a silver and black handgun.
