A North Canton City Schools swim coach who was sentenced to four years in prison on sexual battery charges involving former student-athletes he coached has been released early after serving less than a year in prison.

Matthew Johnsen, 41, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual battery back in April, according to Stark County Court of Common Pleas records.

News 5 previously reported that Johnsen had been the head swimming coach at Hoover High School for around 15 years prior to his arrest in 2017. Stark County prosecutors told News 5 the charges involved two students he coached between 2006 and 2008.
