AKRON, Ohio — A 35-year-old man in Akron was arrested Tuesday after police found an assault-style rifle with a 50-round drum and drugs in the car during a traffic stop.
The stop happened around 6:40 p.m. in the 600 block of East Avenue.
Police said that the driver, Antonio Cook, was charged with having weapons under disability, improper handling of firearms in a motor vehicle, possession of drugs and open container.
Officers pulled Cook over for a traffic violation. During a search of the vehicle, they found a AR-15-style rifle sitting on the back seat partially covered. It had a loaded 50-round drum, police said. Additionally, a handgun with an extended magazine was located under the driver’s seat.
Police said they also found more than seven grams of fentanyl in the vehicle. There was also an open container of alcohol in the vehicle.
A 16-year-old boy, who was sitting in the front passenger’s seat, was charged with improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, according to police.
