AKRON, Ohio — Authorities in Akron are investigating two separate homicides that happened on Sunday, according to a news release from the Summit County Medical Examiner.

First homicide

The medical examiner and the Akron Police Department are investigating the apparent homicide of a 22-year-old man.

On Sunday at around 8:30 p.m., police responded to a home in the 600 block of Payne Avenue where they discovered the man lying in the front yard with multiple gunshot wounds.

Police said the victim was shot in the back by an unknown person.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at around 9:02 p.m.

Second homicide

The medical examiner and the Akron Police Department are investigating the homicide of a 38-year-old man.

On Sunday, police responded at around 10 p.m. to Concord Avenue where the man was found with a gunshot wound in the church parking lot.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Officers detained a 33-year-old woman as a person of interest. She was interviewed and later released. Police said no charges have been filed.

The medical examiner said once positive identifications are made and next-of-kin has been notified, an update will be provided.
