AKRON, Ohio — The Akron Police Department is investigating the apparent homicide of a 22-year-old woman found near train tracks Tuesday night. Her death marks the 34th homicide of 2020, surpassing last year's total of 33.
Police responded at around 5 p.m. to the 900 block of West Wilbeth Road in Akron, where officers and the fire department located the woman with an apparent gunshot wound near the train tracks.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene at around 5:37 p.m.
The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy today.
