AKRON, Ohio — Akron homicide detectives have identified a suspect accused of stabbing a 68-year-old man to death last week and stealing his car.
The suspect, Jason Shockley, 30, was arrested on May 22 and charged with aggravated murder, aggravated robbery, breaking and entering and criminal damaging, authorities said.
According to the Akron Police Department, on May 21, officers responded to a home in the 800 block of Wilmot Street to conduct a welfare check on a 68-year-old man who hadn’t been heard from recently.
Officers located the victim’s body inside the home, and it appeared that he had been stabbed to death. The man’s car, a 2005 Subaru Outback, was missing from the residence, authorities said.
On May 22, detectives found the car in the 80 block of Kent Court, which led them to an abandoned building where Shockley was found inside, authorities said. He was arrested without incident. At the time of his arrest, Shockley was also wanted for a parole violation.
Shockley is currently being held in lieu of a $1 million bond, according to Akron Municipal Court records.
