Police are investigating after a would-be robber was shot by the owner of the store he tried to rob Friday morning.

The shooting happened just before 9 a.m., Friday morning at Highland Square Pharmacy, 786 West Market St., in Akron.

According to authorities, three men, all wearing black clothing with their faces concealed, entered the pharmacy and two of them jumped over the counter and told the owner not to move.

When the men reached into their pockets and started pulling out plastic bags, the store owner, fearing for his life, pulled out a handgun and fired several rounds at the men, police said.

The would-be robbers jumped in a car that was waiting nearby and fled the scene, police said.

A man later turned up at a nearby hospital with gunshot wounds to the arm and chest, police said.

Police are not releasing the identity of the wounded man since he has not been charged with a crime.

Authorities are looking for the other suspects.
