AKRON, Ohio — A 54-year-old woman died Tuesday following a crash that happened last month in Akron when a truck ran a red light and smashed into her car.

The crash happened July 28 around 10:12 p.m.

According to Akron police, a person driving a 2017 Ford F-150 was heading south on Kelly Avenue when they ran the red light at Triplett Boulevard and struck a 2014 Buick Regal.

The impact caused the Ford to flip over. The Buick rotated and came to a stop nearby.

The truck’s driver fled the scene before officers arrived but was identified the following day, authorities said.

The Buick’s driver, Nancy Smith, was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. She succumbed to her injuries Tuesday evening.

No arrests have been made.

Authorities said that speed and alcohol are believed to have contributed to the crash.

The matter remains under investigation.
