HINCKLEY, Ohio — A little boy named Tony who was abandoned at Hope Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Hinckley on Dec. 23 has been reunited with his father, Hinckley Police Chief David Centner said Thursday.
In a Facebook post, Centner said while the investigation is ongoing, Tony was placed back in the care of his father, who police said had no involvement in the incident.
"The mother is the focus of our investigation and is currently in the care of a local medical facility," Centner stated. "We are working with the Municipal Law Director as to charges upon her release. I am not releasing her name until the time she is formally charged."
Police said Tony, who was about 3 years old, was found at the cemetery after a witness said she saw a car drive away, with the boy and his dog chasing behind it.
Center thanked everyone in the community who showed their generosity by dropping off gifts at the station so Tony could have good Christmas.
“With regards to the outpouring of gifts, phone calls, emails and posts extending your love and caring for Tony," the chief said. "It has become difficult for us to reply to all of the response with our limited staff. We would ask that no further gifts be dropped off at the police department. If you feel the blessing to help, please check with your local communities as there are always needs to be filled. We are truly humbled by the response not only locally but from across our great country!"
