2 Cleveland Heights high school students found with loaded firearms this week

Cleveland Heights High School is closing school on Friday after a student was found with a loaded firearm, according to school district officials.

According to the school district, school leadership was informed that a student was suspected of possessing a weapon. Staff members of the district searched the student and found a loaded handgun on their person.

District officials say the student was arrested, and the weapon was confiscated.

This is the second student to be found with a loaded weapon this week.

On Oct. 7, a different student was suspected of the same thing. The School Resource Officer searched the student, who was then arrested for possessing a weapon, district officials said.

Heights High School notified the school district of the incidents and canceled classes for Friday, Oct. 11.

The high school says classes will resume Monday, Oct. 14, and students will have to go through metal detectors during any searches that take place.

District officials say the school will also have supports in place for students and staff.

District officials told News 5 more information will be released regarding these incidents.
