2 injured in hazmat incident at trucking company in Cleveland

CLEVELAND — Two people were injured Thursday afternoon in a hazardous materials incident on Cleveland’s Southeast Side.

According to Cleveland fire, the incident happened at a trucking company in the 8100 block of Union Avenue.

Firefighters, a hazmat unit and Cleveland EMS responded to the scene.

A 30-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man were transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition, according to Cleveland EMS.

A Cleveland fire spokesperson said the woman was "cleaning out a semi-trailer tanker when she was overcome. Another worker went in to get her and was also rendered unconscious."

Firefighters used breathing apparatuses and used a hoist to rescue the two before the hazmat team arrived, authorities said.
