CLEVELAND — A 21-year-old mother who was pulled from an apartment fire early Thursday morning has died, according to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner.

Cleveland firefighters responded to East 143rd Street near Milverton, just north of Kinsman Avenue. Fire crews rescued a baby, bringing the child down a ladder from a third-floor bedroom window. Crews also retrieved the mother, 21-year-old Jade Davis, carrying her down the stairs.

Both Davis and her baby were transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Davis died on Friday, according to the medical examiner.

The baby's current condition is unknown at this time.

In total, seven residents were transported to the hospital after the fire. One firefighter was injured, authorities said.
