CLEVELAND — Cleveland Metroparks Zoo has a new addition after the birth of a black howler monkey on Jan. 16.

The parent howler monkeys, Maxine and Rocco, are doing great, according to the zoo.

Visitors can find the baby around Maxine’s stomach or back when they enter the Primate Cat & Aquatics building, the zoo said.

Female black howler monkeys are not black, despite their name. The females have a tan or brown coat while the males have a distinct black coat.

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo’s baby black howler monkey does not have a name and its sex is not known at this time, but if it is a male his coat will turn black as he gets older.

Welcome to the Land baby howler monkey!
