Boat patrols continued on Sunday as authorities look for a 13-year-old boy who disappeared while swimming at Edgewater Beach in Cleveland on Friday.

According to officials, the boy was last seen swimming with a girl around 8:30 p.m. on Friday. She had come back to shore, but he did not. That's when the supervisor from his group home, who was there at the time, called police.

Rescue crews scoured the area up until 11:30 p.m. on Friday when they decided to suspend the search due to high waves and darkness. The search resumed on Saturday and by noon, the Coast Guard announced they were no longer able to assist. A spokesperson said they had exhausted their assets and had checked 147 square miles of water.

The Cleveland Metroparks issued a press release stating that the beach has since reopened and that their teams will continue their efforts through shore and boat-based sonar searches.

Lifeguards are on duty daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. from now until the second Sunday in August, and then on weekends only through Labor Day.

Edgewater Beach House and the Taste on the Lake event remain unaffected.
