CLEVELAND — A group of cyclists took to the streets of Cleveland Saturday morning to ride for Black lives and to bring awareness to racial and social injustices across the country.

Bike the Block for Black Lives started at West 25th Street and Lorain Avenue at 11 a.m. and departed on a 12-mile ride around the city.

“Today we wanted to bring everyone together to continue to fight for justice for Black people,” said Tosha Studmire, Bike the Block for Black Lives Organizer. “It gives us hope to know that people have this on their minds and they’re willing to fight with us for the long haul.”

Hundreds of people gathered together, all wearing their masks, for the ride focused on bringing change for the future of the Black community and continuing the call for justice for Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and others.

“There’s some sense of personal responsibility as well as civic engagement and we know that to push the arm of justice forward really need both of those things,” said Hannah Chin, Bike the Block for Black Lives Organizer. “The conditions today aren’t ideal, but that is metaphorical for this fight for justice. It’s just not going be convenient or easy.”
