The five young dogs that died at the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter came from the Cleveland City Kennel, according to officials. It's still not known what caused the illness that killed the animals or where the dogs may have contracted it.
The Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter was shut down earlier this week to undergo extensive cleaning. This is the first time the shelter had to close for this type illness, according to administrators.

Officials said the county shelter's veterinarian worked with other specialists to determine what caused the illness that spread from animal to animal. All five of the dogs had been sent to the shelter from the city kennel in the last few weeks.
Both the city kennel and the county animal shelter have undergone extensive cleaning since the illness was discovered.
