CLEVELAND — A man who was in critical condition after being shot in The Flats has since died, according to the Cleveland Police Department.

On Thursday, officers were called to the 1500 block of Merwin Avenue for a report of a man shot.

Once on scene, officers found a 27-year-old man on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. The man was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition but later died, according to police.

The early investigation indicates that the 27-year-old man was inside of the Lotus Lounge in the Flats, drinking with friends. When they left, a dark-colored SUV drove by and fired shots, striking him and a 29-year-old man, who was also taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his arm.

Because the 27-year-old died from his injuries, a homicide investigation has been initiated.

No arrests have been made at this time and the incident remains under investigation.
