July Fourth marred by several shootings in Cleveland

CLEVELAND — Independence Day is off to a rocky start as Cleveland police investigate several shootings that occurred overnight across the city.

The first shooting happened in the city’s Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood at 2 a.m.

According to police, a 21-year-old man was shot in the knee. He was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center for treatment.

Another shooting happened around the same time in Cleveland’s Forest Hills Neighborhood. Police said a 25-year-old man was shot near East 117th Street and St. Clair Avenue. He was taken to University Hospitals for treatment.

At around 5 a.m., officers responded to the 1900 block of East 79th Street in Cleveland’s Hough neighborhood. Police found a 48-year-old man who had been shot in the back. He was also taken to University Hospitals for treatment.

No additional information has been released.

The shootings remain under investigation.
