CLEVELAND — A Deputy US Marshal trained to sniff out explosives is hanging up his badge and retiring Saturday at midnight.

K-9 Mario spent more than seven years working for the United States Marshals Service.

The English Labrador has been pressed into service for many high profile events including the Republican National Convention and most recently the trial of El Chapo in New York.

“He gets to stay with myself and my family," said his partner Deputy US Marshal Aaron Fisher about Mario’s retirement plans.

To show their appreciation to K-9 Mario, the staff at the US Marshals office in Cleveland gave Mario a retirement party.

Staff made snacks for the party, presented him with a proclamation and treated him to a dog friendly cake which he thoroughly enjoyed.
