CLEVELAND — Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital threw a surprise party for one of their beloved volunteers and longtime nurse of 60 years who turned 90 years old this week.
Dahlia Zamaityte, a former Rainbow nurse and current volunteer, was surprised with a small celebration outside of her apartment on Thursday.
Zamaityte was involved in important research about how children bond with their parents. That work helped change the way hospitals around the globe handle childbirth.
It set the standard of giving parents private time with their children right after they’re born.
Since she can’t volunteer at the hospital because of the coronavirus pandemic, staff decided to bring the balloons, cake and gifts to her.
"I don't feel 90, I don't know how one needs to feel better 90 because it's just a number, it's just a number, what you do with your age, that's what makes it different,” she said.
It’s no question she has made an impact on the staff and the patients over the years.
