A 77-year-old man was struck and killed by a semi-truck in Cleveland Tuesday morning, according to police.
Tony Abramo was struck by the truck at the intersection of Jennings Road and Denison Avenue, near chemical manufacturer Chemical Solvents, according to officials. He was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland where he was pronounced dead at about 11:44 a.m. Tuesday.
A spokesperson for Chemical Solvents confirmed that Abramo was a long-time trusted contractor for the Cleveland company. Abramo was on site obtaining measurements for materials to conduct construction work at the manufacturer when he was struck by an outside transportation carrier based in Erie, PA.
"As Mr. Abramo was not an employee of Chemical Solvents, and out of respect to the Abramo Family Chemical Solvents has no other statements to make regarding the accident until authorized by the family to do so," the Chemical Solvents spokesperson said. "However, everyone that worked with Tony knew what a great guy he was. Always had a story to share."
