A man is in the hospital after attempting to evade police and driving into a building on Wednesday.
Deonte Golston, 26, was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property, failure to comply with lawful order of a police officer and cited for headlights after he led Garfield Heights police on a high-speed chase.
Police spotted the stolen Buick Lacrosse, driven by Golston traveling north on Turney Road.
When the officer initiated a traffic stop on Granger Road, Golston briefly pulled over and stopped on the side of the road before speeding off through Valley View and into Brook Park, eventually traveling on Brookpark Road at 65 mph, according to a press release.
After running through a stop sign and traveling on various streets, the chase eventually ended when Golston crashed the car into the front steps of an apartment complex located in the 4700 block of Broadview Road.
The vehicle's engine caught fire and Golston was dragged out of the car and placed in the driveway for safety, according to police.
He was transported to Metro Hospital in serious condition with a broken leg.
