Ohio politicians are already talking 2020 — and talking about potentially taking on President Donald Trump.

On “This Week” with George Stephanopoulos, both Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown and Republican Gov. John Kasich said they are strongly considering presidential runs in 2020.

Sen. Brown said while he never grew up dreaming of being President of the United States, he is “seriously thinking about it” now.

“We’re seriously talking about it with family and friends and political allies who have come to me about this,” Brown said. Brown was the lone Democrat who claimed victory during Ohio’s 2018 midterm elections, when Republicans saw a statewide sweep.

A presidential bid is also something Gov. John Kasich said he is thinking about — once again.

“These are earnest conversations that go on every day with some of my friends, my family. Look, we need different leadership. There isn’t any question about it,” Kasich added.

According to ABC News, President Donald Trump has a nearly 90 percent approval rating within the Republican party.

Brown also spoke about Ohio turning into more of a red state than the swing state it has always been known as.

“We’ve got work to do as the state seems to be getting more conservative contrasted to the rest of the country,” Brown said.

Meanwhile, in a recent op-ed in the New York Times, Dayton’s Democratic mayor Nan Whaley claimed Ohio isn’t a red state yet — “but it will be if Democrats do not fight for working people in every corner of the state.”
