CLEVELAND — A teenage male was found shot in the middle of an intersection in Cleveland on Monday night after a possible carjacking and was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Cleveland police responded to the 8000 block of Detroit Avenue at about 9:55 p.m. Monday, according to a Cleveland police news release. On arrival, police found an unidentified juvenile male, aged 14 to 16, lying in the middle of the intersection unresponsive.
Officers administered first aid to to the victim, who had a gunshot wound to his clavicle, police said. He was taken by EMS to MetroHealth where he was later pronounced dead.
Police said preliminary information indicates the victim's vehicle may have been taken, but there is no description of the vehicle at this time.
The victim was stopped at a traffic light at the intersection when an unknown man ran up to the car and entered the rear seat, police said. Residents heard gunshots, and the victim was found in the intersection. The vehicle was gone.
Police said they responded to another shooting just before this incident at 85th Street and Detroit Avenue.
The Homicide Unit responded to the scene, and the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an investigation into the identity of the victim.
