A 19-year-old woman remains on life support after a suspect fired nearly a dozen rounds into a west side gentleman’s club early Saturday morning. Mary Jane Chambers, a dancer at the club, was shot in the head, her family said.
The shooting happened at Million Dollar Club, which is located in the 4300-block of Clark Avenue, around 2 a.m. Saturday. Chambers’ family said she was inside the club with her back to the front glass door when the gunman opened fire.
“We’re just praying right now. She’s not breathing on her own,” said Berena Chambers, the victim’s step-mother. “We’re just waiting to see what’s going to happen.”
While it is unclear what led up to the shooting, the victim’s step-mother said the club has not been cooperative with Cleveland police detectives. The victim’s employer has refused to provide police with the surveillance video showing the shooting without a court order, Chambers said. That court order might not be secured until Monday, which wastes precious investigatory time, Chambers said.
“I’m going to die trying to get justice for my daughter,” Chambers said.
The Million Dollar Club was also the scene of a shooting last July when two patrons fired at bouncers who had kicked them out of the club. The shooting left a man injured. The two suspects were arrested.
The victim’s family believes it is time for the club to be shut down.
“They need to close that down. It’s no good,” Robert Chambers said. “Justice needs to be served.“
