LORAIN, Ohio — August is a busy month for parents who are trying to get their kids ready for back to school. This month also means you’re running out of time to answer the US Census.
This weekend, you can do both. The Lorain and Elyria Public Libraries are holding a Back to School Census Drive Thru event.
Lorain and Elyria families can get backpacks, pencils and notebooks while also completing the Census on site. The events are being held Main Library and South Lorain Branches as well as the Elyria Public Library’s West River Branch from 1 until 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 8.
Earlier this week, the US Census Bureau announced that it was ending collection efforts a month early, on September 30. The Bureau also said it’s ending its efforts to knock on the doors of households that have not filled out the survey online, in its paper form or by phone.
The Census happens every ten years. It determines how many representatives each state gets in Congress and how billions of dollars in federal funding is spent.
