EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio — Ohio’s voter registration deadline is just two days away.
The Zeta Omega Chapter and Zeta Kappa Kappa Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. joined the Greater Cleveland Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. on Saturday in East Cleveland, teaming up to make sure people in the community are ready to cast their ballots on Election Day.
Free coronavirus testing was also offered.
The groups have hosted five of their Community Check In and Check Up events this year.
“We are all about servicing the underserved. Our sorority was really founded on the basis of social action and being politically active,” said Ruth Price Rollins, President, Greater Cleveland Alumnae of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
People came to take advantage of the free COVID-19 testing from Care Alliance Health Center and got help registering to vote all from the safety of their own cars. They were also encouraged to fill out the 2020 census.
They say the goal is to provide critical resources for the Black community.
“Some of the services that we're offering, particularly the COVID testing, that's where some people have difficulty getting access to get tested so we wanted to make sure that we were able to provide that,” Price Rollins said.
People who participated in at least one of the services offered Saturday were also able to take home food donations from the Greater Cleveland Food Bank.
