A man told Akron police he escaped a kidnapping after being robbed by pulling the emergency trunk release and jumping out of a moving car.
At about 1 p.m. Friday, a 22-year-old man was visiting a friend in the 700 block of Caddo Avenue, according to a news release from Akron police. While inside the home, two males ordered the victim at gunpoint to strip off his clothing. The suspects took the victim’s clothing and $1,000 in cash that was in his pocket.
The suspects ordered the victim to get into the trunk of a white Chevy Impala, then drove away with him in the trunk, police said. The victim told police he pulled the emergency trunk release and jumped out of the moving car.
The victim got up and started running, police said. He hopped over a fence and ran through a field. The suspects stopped the car and fired several shots at the victim, but the victim was not shot.
According to police, the victim ran through the woods, over the railroad tracks, and ended up at a scrapyard in the 900 block of Hazel Street where the employees called police. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries from jumping out of the car.
Police described the suspects as two black males, 25 to 30 years old, 5-feet-6-inches tall and 200 pounds in weight. The first suspect was wearing a white t-shirt. The second suspect was wearing a black t-shirt and had a tattoo on his cheek, under his eye, of a star or teardrop, police said.
