Multiple crews from different agencies all over Medina County responded to a chemical spill Monday afternoon at a plant in Seville.

According to officials, a hydrochloric acid line at Bleachtech broke, releasing acid into a containment area outside the building, which is located in the 300 block of Ryan Road.

The immediate area was evacuated, and businesses within a quarter mile of Ryan Road were told to shelter in place. The shelter-in-place order has since been lifted.

Two employees sustained minor injuries and drove themselves to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Authorities said that Ryan Road will remain closed near the site as cleanup efforts continue, but there is no hazard to nearby businesses.

Some of the chemicals went into a pond located on site; however, no chemicals left the property. A crew will remain on the scene to monitor the cleanup.

Authorities said the following agencies responded to the spill:

  • Seville Fire Department
  • LST

  • Hinckley Fire Department
  • Brunswick Hills Fire Department

  • Lodi Fire Department
  • Lafayette Fire Department
